Many of the noble Tuareg watch the festival proceedings from the back of a camel. Standing in their shadow, and marvelling at the spectacular array of robes and cheches (head coverings), it becomes easy to see why for centuries the Tuareg struck fear into the heart of their enemies even before unleashing their ferocious attacks.
