Tetepare ranger Moses measures the diameter of a useful tree as Laurie Wein records the data. The survey is being conducted at more than 50 quadrats across the island, most of them difficult to access because of the dense nature of the rainforest and the failure of GPS to work below the canopy. This particular survey is focused on mapping the distribution and prevalence of those tree species traditionally used by islanders ie. for house construction and dugout canoes.
