Tetepare was formed by volcanic activity, and for this reason the beach sand is black. We staked-out this 500 metre long beach for a night, on the slim chance that a leatherback turtle would choose that same night to come ashore and lay. Leatherbacks are one of three species of sea turtle that nest on Tetepare.
